SICILY. Syracuse. Fifth Democracy, 214-212 BC. 8 Litrai (Silver, 23 mm, 6.77 g, 10 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Corinthian helmet, pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣIΩN Winged thunderbolt; below, ΞΑ. Burnett, Enna 25 (dies 9/C). HGC 2, 1414. SNG ANS 1045 (same dies). SNG Ashmolean 2122 (same dies). Lustrous and with lovely iridescent toning. Very light die rust on the obverse and a small flan fault and very minor weakness on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.
